The Phantom of the Opera is based on a classic French thriller about a terrifying and legendary figure who emerges from the depths of The Paris Opera House and manifests the mythic opera ghost in terrifying reality.

Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical masterpiece The Phantom of the Opera is now in its 22nd record breaking year. Directed by Hal Prince, this haunting love story has been seen in 120 cities in 24 countries and played to over 100 million people and won over 50 major theatre awards, including seven Tony’s on Broadway and three Olivier Awards in the West End.

With some of the most lavish sets, costumes and special effects ever to have been created for the stage, The Phantom of the Opera is a musical phenomenon.

This unforgettable musical traces the tragic love story of a beautiful opera singer and a young composer shamed by his physical appearance into a shadowy existence beneath the majestic Paris Opera House. The combination of opulent sets and costumes, fabulous special effects and a spine-tingling score makes The Phantom of the Opera a theatre experience not to be missed.

It received its world premiere at Her Majesty's Theatre in London on 9th October 1986 and has since played over five thousand performances in London. Worldwide The Phantom of the Opera has been seen in ninety cities and has won more than fifty major theatre awards.
